| This 30W FM exciter, is a complete radio
station in a 3U box. It has no-compromise
audio processing and an RDS encoder built-in.
EMC compliance and professional performance are assured, thanks to independent testing
and approval to ETS 300 384 and ETS 300 447 (under the R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC).
Aimed at a new generation of radio stations and engineers, antiquated and slow acting
needle meters have been replaced by analogue to digital measurement technology. The
backlit LCD, together with ergonomic front panel controls, allows simple menu navigation
for easy option selection and setting.
Optimum loudness, within tight deviation limits, is achieved by the integral 5-band stereo
audio processor, which provides a loud, clear sound, similar to top-of-the line
digital
processors, costing many thousands of pounds. The processors intelligent AGC section
optimises short and long-term variations in sound levels, while returning to 0dB gain to
prevent noise on landline feeds or STL's rising during long pauses. The five independent
compressors on each channel feature wide filter bands for natural sound. A special
compression curve characteristic prevents the unnatural amplification of very low level
sounds and noise, whilst the individual limiters provide the control needed to ensure that
final clipping circuitry operates with negligible distortion or audible effect.
The RDS encoder broadcasts station name (PS), RadioTEXT,
PTY, TP and AF information,
with a dynamic TA 'flag', where appropriate. If TA switching is enabled, the TX FM1/S/R/A
continually monitors the audio for DTMF switching tones (embedded in idents
played at
the studio), instructing it to activate the Traffic Announcement mode, thus switching
listeners' receivers.
At the heart of the TXFM1/S/R/A is a high quality modulator employing proprietary
complementary varicap compensation resulting in constant modulation across the
entire
band for true broadband performance. The carrier frequency is user-selectable via
internal dial-up numbered BCD switches.
ALC (Automatic Level Control) of the broadband RF power amplifier ensures that ERP not
only remains within the permitted limit, but is also continually optimised for maximum
reach. SWR cut back, and both audible and visual alarms activate in the event of
mismatches in the antenna system.
The rugged TX FM1/S/R/A incorporates a Switch Mode Power Supply and local switching
regulators for efficiency. Convection cooling, plus carefully specified, quality
components
ensure continual service for many years without maintenance, making the TX-FM1S/R/A
the obvious choice for todays quality driven, yet cost conscious, radio stations.
